The judging process
One of the great things about Britain’s Best Loaf is the exciting live and open judging, which takes place on Monday 16th April 2018 at the Farm Shop & Deli Show, NEC Birmingham.
All entrants are required to register on the day and deliver samples of their products to the Britain’s Best Loaf competition area at the show. After leaving their loaves for judging, participants are welcome to access all areas of the Farm Shop & Deli Show for free, while they tentatively wait for the competition winners to be announced in the afternoon.
Our panel of expert judges sample and test each loaf live on-site, assessing them on the following criteria: external appearance, internal structure, aroma and taste. The judges divide into teams to score the entries in each category, then come back together to collectively choose their winner and highly commended in each class. This is a big task! In 2017 one hundred and fifty loaves competed for the title of Britain’s Best Loaf and we expect even more entries this year.
The judges have to make some tough decisions in deciding who takes the individual category awards, then there is an even harder choice, who takes the ultimate accolade of Britain’s Best Loaf 2018!
All winners are announced on-site later that day at around 1pm, as we recognise and celebrate the very best in British bread at the Britain’s Best Loaf 2018 awards presentation.
